Ask me about SCRIPT DOCTORING!

Experience Required: None
Come to experience, feel, learn, share and connect.
What’s expected: Write a full scene by the end of the course, perform (even if for the first time) and embrace the challenge.
I offer crucial lessons and methods for creating tension on the page that give actors the freedom they need to explore and create a visceral and immediate sense of drama.
Learn to:
· Cut through artifice to find the heart of your story
· Ground your dialogue and scenes in palpable human behavior
· Focus on creating dynamic, authentic moments in a minimal setting
· Support actor presence
· Create an intimate and emotionally resonant experience
This course consists of eight lessons that culminate in a full scene for actors to read with an audience.
I expect every writer to read/act at least once during the course as an essential tool for learning to be a better playwright.

Joan Mathieu studied playwriting at Paradise Factory (www.paradisefactory.org), where she currently serves as artistic director. She recently made her New York City acting debut in Grant Varjas' BOOKSTORE as part of that series. She also appears in Andrew Sully's short film CROWDED RIVER. Her essays have appeared in the Antioch Review, The Rumpus and Hermette Magazine. She is the author of ZULU: AN IRISH JOURNEY (Farrar, Straus & Giroux). Photo credit: Richard Alfredo
